If you are an olive fan, this muffuletta sandwich recipe is for you. Traditionally this sandwich is prepared on a 9” round bread. It can also be spelled as muffaletta.
You’ll need;
Bread of choice (if you cannot find an rustic round, use french bread)
Olive salad (at least 1 C)
Italian meats: salami, ham, mortadella (quarter lb each)
Provolone cheese, sliced
Red pepper flakes, (*optional)
Split your bread and slather on the olive salad, both sides. Stack your italian meats and top with the provolone cheese.
Olive salad can easily be made: combine green and black olives, shallots, celery, garlic, parsley and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes in the processor, pulse until texture is even. Use a bit of olive oil to blend for a smooth texture. That easy! Other optionals include, red roasted bell peppers, capers, or a couple of dashes of red wine vinegar for bite.
