Stewed Apples
Easy, warming – makes your kitchen smell good! Beats cold applesauce as a side anytime. These apples are great for breakfast alongside French Toast, for lunch with a pulled pork sandwich. Excellent when paired with a ham, pork roast or chops for dinner.
You’ll need:

1lb of apples (about 4-5 large)
2 Tbsp butter/oleo
1/3 C sugar
1/3 C white wine (a Riesling works really well here)
1/3 C water
small piece of lemon peel
1 Tbsp lemon juice
*piece of cinnamon stick optional (about a 1″ piece)
To prepare:
Wash, peel and core 1 lb of apples (about 4 large) – cut into thick slices
saute in 2 Tbsp of butter for 3 minutes
sprinkle with 1/3 C sugar, add water, wine, lemon peel and juice and the cinnamon stick
Cover and cook slowly until apples are tender. About 15-20 minutes. Serves 4-6.
This is a wonderful way to use up apples that have seen their best days. Peel, core and pare per instructions, just make sure to cut out any bruises.
